The Blue Slate Turkey comes to us thanks to two natural mutations that happened before anybody bothered to write that kind of thing down. We presume there was a habitat in antiquity that offered camouflage to a lavender turkey, but haven't seen it. The great thing about the Blue Slate is it's small size. A hen may dress out to less than 10 lbs, and a tom may be just 14 or 16 lbs. If you are a couple or small family looking for a right-sized turkey without a lot of turkey sandwhiches, the blue slate is for you.
